Hi, good question. Well applying coatings to a metallic product the temperature of the product is very important. If the product surface is very cold compared to the coating which is being applied you get thermal stresses in the coating. These thermal stresses can lead to cracking in the coating. The environment you apply coatings in is also important, contamination in the coating (i.e dust, grit, sand) could interfere with the mechanical bond between the product and coating, causing the coating to come away (delaminate) from the product.
