Hi Annabuns! This is a question I always love to answer. Yes, my family influenced me greatly. I have an older brother and when we were kids I always wanted to copy him. I played with dolls too but my parents never held me back or told me off for playing “boys games”. There is one episode in particular that I remember and always bring up as an example. My brother had to build an electric circuit using a battery and some bulbs and I desperately wanted to do the same. So my dad bought batteris and light bulbs for me and we built the electric circuit together.
In my late teens, my decision of becoming an engineer was not always met with the same enthusiasm that my parents showed but I didn’t care much because I knew my parents would cheer for me irrespective.

      Hi Annabuns
There’s no engineers in my family, so not really, but my mum was always very supportive. She didn’t get much of an education, so she took me to a tiny interactive museum that was not far from us. She also used to buy massive tubs of Lego from school fairs. She also didn’t mind when I mixed up everything I could find in the kitchen or bathroom to see what would happen. I never got told it was weird to want to build a robot from a kit or drive remote controlled cars.

Hi Annabuns, yes my family very very important in my decision. My grandad and dad were both engineers. My grandad was in the RAF like me too. He told me stories about things he had worked on and along with my dad we would visit aircraft museums. My family supported me throughout school and becoming an engineer taking me to events.
